Department of Botany is one of the Department of Gramin (ACS) College, Vasantnagar, which is existing right from the establishment of the college, since 1991 Sept.
Dr. H.M. Lakde was the former head and teaching faculty from Sept. 1992 to March 2012. In next year from 1993 Dr. K.M. Shendge appointed as a lecturer in this department.
The department and college was running on non-grant basis from 1991 to 1997, meanwhile in Sept. 1994 there was 3rd faculty Mr. S.R. Kankute appointed through by proper selection committee of Dr.B.A.M.U., A’bad and State Government of Maharashtra, formerly the college affiliated to Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad and later on from 17th September, 1994 the affiliated to new established university i.e. S.R.T.M. University, Nanded.
Right from 1994 to 2012 the department was running by 3 teaching faculty members alongwith 2 nonteaching members.

The department performing three year degree course B.Sc. general and also pursuing skill enhancement course and short-term add-on courses. No. of students has been passed out with distinction from this department.
Since 2012, the department runs by a single teaching faculty. Two teaching faculties and one non-teaching has surplused due to the lac of student’s strength and became single faculty member department, from Dec. 2014 onwards. Mr. S.R. Kankute performing or has taken a charge of headship of the department of Botany.
Now the department in well equipped with a separate laboratory with anti chamber for the faculty. Almost all instruments, chemicals, furniture, computer etc. facilities are existing in the department.
One more plus point is that the department has organised Science Exhibition, Medicinal Plants Exhibition and established well planned Botanical Garden in college campus.
The department is organizing Guest Lectures every year for the extra knowledge for the students.
The department is conducting Internal Assessment Exams, Seminars, group discussions to update the students.
The department is also implements the skill enhanced courses and short term add-on courses for degree students to enhance the research attitude and aptitude point of view.
